Yorkshire & Humberside Judo

2019 saw the Commonwealth Championships being hosted by the British Judo Association at Walsall.

There were a few players from the Y&H area, as clubs let us know of results we'll add them here.

Ben George passes A badge and Cian Maris passes B ref badge

More referee success for the Yorkshire & Humberside area as Cian Maris passes hie B exam at the first attempt and Ben George gains his A badge. Both being assessed at the 2024 national pre-cadet & cadet event.

Becoming a referee can be challenging at times, but it rewarding in it's own way - best seats in the house!

Ian Johns recognised with UK Sport PLX coach award

Ian Johns has been recognised by UK Sport for his achievements in coaching the BJA paralympic squad to 4 medals.

Over 3 Paralympic cycles the BJA squad have taken one gold, two silver and one bronze under Ian's stewardship.

A Lifetime Achievement Award for over 60 Years of Judo

Parry Asquith honoured by being made Honorary President of the West Yorkshire Judo County and given a “Lifetime Achievement Award” 

Sunday 17th November, Parry Asquith and his wife, Jackie, attended the West Yorkshire Judo Championships and development competition at Sedbergh Sports Centre in Bradford, close to the now redundant Richard Dunn sports centre. During this event, Parry was honoured by being made Honorary President of the West Yorkshire Judo County and presented with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by West Yorkshire Judo Chairman Gordon Lambert in front of hundreds competitors and visitors.
