New dan grade syllabus
This course is part of a National Program to update all members on the modernised
This event is primarily for Senior Examiners for whom attendance is mandatory in order to be able to examine the new syllabus.Dan Grade processes and techniques to start on 1st Jan 2026.
All attending SEs will also convert to carrying out Kata exams for Nage-no-kata, Katame-no-kata and Gonosen-no-kata up to Level 2.
Coaches will benefit from gaining an understanding of the changes to the grading structure when preparing their judoka for promotion and also update their knowledge of the 100 IJF/Kodokan techniques, which are also part of the IJF Academy coaching program, whilst being signposted to all resources available.

Technical Grading One –
The aim of this module is to deliver, discuss and work with the technical requirement of British Judo’s ‘Mon and Kyu Grading Syllabus’ 1st to 9th Mon and the Kyu grade equivalent in order that coaches can confidently prepare and grade players Novice to 6th Mon and Novice to 5th Kyu.
Technical Grading Two -
The aim of this module is to deliver, discuss and work with the technical requirement of British Judo’s ‘Mon and Kyu Grading Syllabus’ 10th to 18th Mon and the Kyu grade equivalent, in order that BJA Level 2 coaches can confidently prepare and grade players for all Mon and Kyu grades.
Please note that without this module all BJA Level 2 coaches qualifying after January 2013 will not be able to grade players.

Judo Spirit U8 festival
This is an U8 festival and the aim is to help participants make friends and gain more mat time in a
fun and safe environment.
On the day for the participants we will teach some techniques, have
some games, have competition based games and some randori time. All participants will receive a
medal. These events can help participants to prepare for competition environments.

There are no weight categories for this event. All players will be set in to groups of 3, 4 or 5 based on
weight, age and grade.
Masterclass : Dan Powell

Ryedale Judo club are hosting Dan Powell, Paralympic silver medalist and reigning IBSA world champion for a masterclass in October.
How many sports can you train directly with current champions?!
Dan is set to lead an engaging Juniors Class for one hour, followed by an intensive three-hour session for seniors at Ryedale Judo Club.
Juniors at £15 per person and Seniors at £25 per person. Please note that entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances, including injury, and participation requires prior payment.
Senior & veterans competitive dan grading
Registering (and paying) through the website attracts a £5 discount.
This makes things easier for us if we can get an idea of numbers/grades that will be attending.
All 1st kyu and higher graded players welcome, men and women.
Please remember to bring with you:
- WHITE kit and blue/white belts
- Valid (in date) licence. Recreational licences are NOT acceptable for gradings.
- Proof of grade - your record book should be signed by your (1st kyus) or have been stamped by BJA (dan grades)
- Points cards if you have any
- Enthusiasm for winning points!
