Yorkshire & Humberside Judo

Peter Simpson was the central figure in the running of Knottingley Judo Club and a long serving member on the West Yorkshire committee involved in organising gradings, competitions and running the West Yorkshire Squads.

He was also a long serving member of the Y & H committee at one time helping to running the Area squad but mainly organising and working to promote Area competition events.

Peter was lost to the Area under tragic circumstances.

At the annual Yorkshire and Humberside teams, the trophy awarded to the winning junior red & yellow belt team is named in his honour.

Seth Birch steps down from area duties

Seth Birch has decided now is the right time to step down from his Y&H area duties, at least to the same level.

As a 7th Dan Judo coach and international player, Seth’s dedication, skill, and passion have inspired generations of judoka — not only through his achievements on the mat, but through the countless hours he has devoted to coaching, mentoring, and developing others.

His contribution has left an enduring mark on British Judo and on everyone fortunate enough to train or work alongside him.

2025 National teams - team manager's report

National Teams 2025 – Yorkshire Returns!

In 2025 we entered teams into the National teams competition. I'd expent my thanks to all those involved in making this happen, Dave Dunsford taking resposibility for overall management. Caroline Brayson and Liam Doody supporting players with team sessions prior to event and guiding them through the event on the day.

Of course thanks to players and parents for getting behind the project and providing so much enthusiasm!

Ben George, Y&H Chair.

What follows is the report from team manager Dave Dunsford.....

Y & H 2024 chair's report

Char's report, presented to the 2025 AGM in June.

Not a bad year for the area, with successes across the spectrum of Judo.

We purchased modern scoreboards a few years back and in 2024 we added video replay for the referees (CARE) which proved a solid and popular investment when first used at the annual Sheffield University Kyu grade Tournament.

We continue to see individuals from the area representing the area within the BJA, Caroline Brayson joining the Veterans Commission and Ben George joining the Promotions Commission.

Neil Fletcher continues to be involved at the highest level of the organisation as BJA vice-chair.
