The ever popular North Yorkshire Festival on the 28th June was once again held at York.An event that year on year proves to be very popular with players of all ages from 8 years old.
In the region of 200 competitors took part in the event across 3 mats.
Eventful for players for sure, also for those who received awards and passed referee mat assessments.
Mike Leng

Mike has been involved with Judo in the region for many decades. One of his latest responsibilities being organising the North Yorkshire Festival each year.
He is one of the founder members of the Ryedale club where he continues to serve as coach and chair. He has played his part in the area referee team, including supporting many referees coming through the system. He served as chair of the North Yorkshire County comittee and has been a member if the Y & H area committee. Mike has also served as a senior examiner and Director of Examiners for the area, reccommending many players for their dan grades in the course of that duty.
He has now decided the time is right to take a step back from so many official duties. An occasion marked with a presentation by the North Yorkshire County.
From all at Ryedale, players, referees, area committee and I'm sure many other cubs and coaches, thankyou Mike.

This is the inaugral presentation of the Brazil Walsh rose bowl in recognition of the young female player of the year 2025. Brazil trained at Huddersfield and was showing great potential for success at a high level. She was lost to the Judo family far too young. For 2025, the Brazil Walsh rose bowl was presented to Chloe Logan in recognition of her competitive achievements.
|
This is the first time this trophy has been awarded and is presented to a young a male player who has had competitive success in 2025. Jeff served as chair of Y&H area, area coach and provided a wealth of knowledge in his coaching at Haltemprice club. Elliott has a strong list of competitive achievements and lately joined the ranks of referees in the area.
