Mike Leng

Mike Leng receives presentation in recognition of decades of voluntary work in the Y & H area

Mike has been involved with Judo in the region for many decades. One of his latest responsibilities being organising the North Yorkshire Festival each year.

He is one of the founder members of the Ryedale club where he continues to serve as coach and chair. He has played his part in the area referee team, including supporting many referees coming through the system. He served as chair of the North Yorkshire County comittee and has been a member if the Y & H area committee. Mike has also served as a senior examiner and Director of Examiners for the area, reccommending many players for their dan grades in the course of that duty.

He has now decided the time is right to take a step back from  so many official duties. An occasion marked with a presentation by the North Yorkshire County.

From all at Ryedale, players, referees, area committee and I'm sure many other cubs and coaches, thankyou Mike.

Referee development

Following the excellent response to the referee course back in April, we have now assessed and examined seven referees within our area.
Two candidates achieved their Club Award in May, and a further five qualified this weekend at the North Yorkshire Festival and the Great North Open respectively:

  • Monty Coyle — Club
  • Jools Denning-Casmir — Club
  • Ruby Plane — Club
  • Noah Leahy — Club
  • Tony Beattie-Lewis — Club
  • Adrian Harding — Area
  • Yaser Heydari — National C

We owe thanks to Dave Francis and Alan Heron who provided guidance to our trainee referee assessors.
