CHRISTOPHER SKELLEY, took part in the Hearing Impaired Section of the British Closed Special Needs Competition at Walsall on Sat. 22nd August 2009.

Weighing in the lightest by far at 93kg, Chris who is only just 16 years old, and a 16th mon, had 3 dan grades in his pool. In his first fight, he threw 19yr old current Champion Tim Marchant (West) for Ippon and his second, he held 140kg / 27yr old Craig Edward (Wales)for 25 seconds. Chris’s third fight, against 26yr old Andrew Smith of Scotland was a very close match with no score after 3 minutes, or after golden score. The judges decision was unlucky for Chris as two flags went against him. But with a silver medal awarded to him, the British coach for the Special Needs showed great interest in him.

WELL DONE Chris, we are hopefully looking forward to seeing you fight in the Europeans Special Needs.

Congratulations also goes to JENNY MORRIS who took a Silver in under 50kg category at the Lakelands Junior Open event on the same day.

The Club’s Coaches are looking forward to an exciting days judo at the Y & H Trials at Goole on 13th Sept. with 21 Competitors taking part. Seven players already represent the club on the England Squad.
