IMPORTANT - players MUST hold the appropriate minimum grade and be able to evidence that at weigh in (online BJA membership / paper record book signed accordingly).

Players who turn up with a grade too low for category entered or unable to evidence their grade will not be able to take part and will NOT have entry fee refunded.

Minimum grades for regional competitions are lower than the minimum grade for the British Schools Championships.

 

Academic Years 4 & 5: (born 1st September 2015 to 31st August 2017)
Minimum grade 1st mon (Bottom Red Belt).
Male: -27kg, -30kg, -34kg, -38kg, -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, and +55kg.
Female: -28kg, -32kg, -36kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, and +57kg.

Technical restrictions will apply in Academic Years 4, 5, 6 & 7

Academic Years 6 & 7 (born 1 September 2013 to 31 August 2015)
Minimum grade 4th mon (Bottom Yellow Belt).
Male: -27kg, -30kg, -34kg, -38kg, -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, and +55kg.
Female: -28kg, -32kg, -36kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, and +57kg.

Technical restrictions will apply in Academic Years 4, 5, 6 & 7


Academic Years 8 & 9 (born 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2013)

Male: -34kg, -38kg, -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg and +66kg.
Female: -32kg, -36kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg and +63kg.

Eligibility:

Minimum grade 6th mon (Top Yellow Belt).

Players who won a medal at the British Pre-Cadet or Cadet or Junior Championships in December 2025 are NOT eligible to compete. EXCEPTION: any player who won less than two contests at either event IS eligible.


Academic Years 10 to 13 (born 1 September 2007 to 31 August 2011)
Male: -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg and +90kg.
Female: -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg and +70kg.

Armloacks & stranges apply. Point scoring where appropriate.

Eligibility:

Minimum grade 9th mon (Top Orange Belt) or 4th kyu (Senior Orange Belt).

Players who won a medal at the British Pre-Cadet or Cadet or Junior Championships in December 2025 are NOT eligible to compete. EXCEPTION: any player who won less than two contests at either event IS eligible.

A: Seniors novice - 5th kyu
B: Seniors 4th - 2nd kyu
C: Seniors 1st kyu+ (point scoring)
C: Veterans 30-44 years, novice - 2nd kyu
D: Veterans 30-44 years, 1st kyu+ (point scoring)
E: Veterans 45+ years, novice - 2nd kyu
F: Veterans 45+ years, 1st kyu+ (point scoring)

Age group defined using same rule as national veterans - turning 45 in 2026 then you can enter the 45+ group.

Please note parking at the venue is limited.

We'd recommend using the York park and ride to get into town or train.

Have you noticed it's the day after the senior & veterans competition? A full weekend of point scoring opportunitues

Registering (and paying) through the website attracts a £5 discount.

All 1st kyu and higher graded players welcome, men and women.

Please remember to bring with you:

  • WHITE kit and blue/white belts
  • Valid (in date) licence. Recreational licences are NOT acceptable for gradings.
  • Proof of grade - your record book should be signed by your coach (1st kyus) or have been stamped by BJA (dan grades)
  • Points cards if you have any
  • Enthusiasm for winning points!

Dan grades - when registering, please enter your highest competitive grade.
