At the Competitive Dan Grading hosted by the Yorkshire & Humberside Area and held at Goole Leisure Centre on 14 th May 2017 we had a total of 21 entrants:

17 x Male 1 st Kyu

2 x Female 1 st Kyus

1 x Female 1 st Dan

1 x Female 2 nd Dan

The Ladies all fought each other in a round robin format with 1 st Kyu’s Ella Corbett and Emily Clark each gaining 10 points and 1 st Dan Tabitha Clark gaining 5 points and 2 nd Dan Bryony Elliott gaining 15 points.

In the Male Kyu grades there were 8 line-ups with 3 players successfully completing them and obtaining sufficient points for their 1 st Dan’s on the day, subject to satisfactorily completing the Competitive Theory Examinations at a later date.

These were Jacob Pope, John Harrison and Harry Iman.

Oliver Standsfield acquired 20 points to be successful in obtaining his 100 points needed for 1 st Dan (plus an extra 10 points for good measure). His Competitive Theory is still to be completed.

Phil Pierson was unlucky not to complete his own line-up but did manage to amass a total of 50 points anyway to add to his 50 starting tally and was therefore successful in achieving the 100 points total needed for his 1 st Dan. He needs to now achieve a pass in his Competitive Theory Exam to complete the award.

On the day only two players were unsuccessful in gaining more points towards their 1 st Dan.

But well done to all who took part in the new trial format with only Ippons counting towards a win value of 10 points – much harder than previous gradings!
